Since June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, it serves as a great reminder to include more in our diets.

Let’s use this excuse to focus more on eating healthy. I often have a hectic schedule and lack time to sit down to have a proper meal. While fruits and vegetables provide a variety of nutrients including vitamins, minerals and fiber. They lower your risk of developing certain chronic diseases. They are also naturally low in calories, fat and sodium, which can help to maintain a healthy weight.

Tone It Up

After doing some research about healthy food plans, I decided I wanted a plan where they tell me what to eat in combination with some daily workouts to schedule in my busy daily life. That’s the moment where I found ‘Tone It Up’, a community of strong, busy women who support and motivate you to become the fittest, healthiest, happiest, and most confident you’ve ever felt.

I started a week ago with the ‘FREE 5-day Tone It Up Detox plan’, just to try it out and see what I could expect. I’m so happy I started this detox plan, because 5 days later I’m 2kg/4.4lb lighter and I feel amazing! Why I do this?

As a European girl living in America I must admit it’s hard to find healthy foods. I bought the same products and brands as I did in Europe but gained weight. So first I thought to look for fat-free yogurts, fat-free dressings, and even fat-free butter, the problem with this idea is that, the fat is usually replaced with sugar to make up for all of the yummy flavor that’s been lost.

My daily breakfast routine was Quaker Oatmeal with blueberries, appeared that the U.S. version of Quaker was made with artificial dyes and flavors while the European Quaker consisted of wholegrain, dried fruit and natural flavoring. The European Union prohibits many food additives that are widely used in American foods.

Even the fruits and vegetables are healthier as in the US. Most cities in Europe are surrounded by a ton of farmland. The fruits and vegetables that you pick up at the actual supermarket in Europe are more likely to be fresh and unprocessed than they are in the U.S.  That’s because the fruits and vegetables are picked when they’re full of vitamins and minerals. Choose for produce grown without pesticides. My advice to you is to avoid all these things that are hidden in the American diet, and to do your best to buy fresh and organic products.

The 5-day Detox Plan

Here’s what my meals looked like on the Tone It Up 5-day detox plan! I follow the regular plan, but you can also follow the vegetarian or vegan version of their meal plan. So I started at the grocery store with a list of all the ingredients I needed for the next 5 days and prepped my meals for the whole week.

I started breakfast off with a giant K+K cleanse smoothie. As usual, this was ½ cup frozen mango, 1 cup of coconut water, 1 tbsp flaxseed, 1 scoop of vanilla Tone It Up protein powder, a ½ cup of spinach, ½ inch fresh ginger and a pinch of cayenne with my Morning Mocktail.

I snacked 2 Coconut Macaroons around 10am. I love that the Tone It Up detox plan recommends so many snacks, this is definitely one of my favorites but they include much more detox desserts in their meal plan! I feel like I’m eating all day!

For lunch I had the Beat The Bloat Beet Salad with a Reboot Wrap. These superfoods help you de-bloat and cleanse the body to reboot. I must admit the beet salad isn’t my favorite because I don’t like beets but the energy these meals give you totally make it up to that.

Around 4pm I go for my favorite meal of the day, the Slimming Soup. I never tasted such a delicious slimming/detox soup before and trust me, I tried a lot of detox soups, plus, I’m a big fan of ginger!

For dinner I should have my Trim It Up Tray Bake but because I ate like every 2 hours I wasn’t really hungry between 6-7pm. So most of the time I dropped this meal and used the vegetables for my Reboot Wrap the next day.

As you can see in the meal plan calendar I had 2 days that I could change my morning routine to Protein Pancakes and scrambled eggs. This gave a nice variation in the detox plan and I looked forward to try something new.

For my workout, I did this workout plan of the Summer Series every morning, and I was definitely feeling it the next day. I love that their workouts are pretty fast and straightforward and they make me sore! Because I loved the detox plan so much I decided to start their 6 weeks Summer Series. I’m starting off today together with some friends so we can support each other, and I’ll keep you up every week about my meals and workouts on the blog and social media.
